What do you need?
Stress relief or relaxation - Pain management - Athletic performance & recovery
Stress relief or relaxation:
Stress management & relaxation is just as important to your health as diet & exercise are. Stress can actually undo all of the hard work you’re putting in at work, at the gym, & by eating correctly.
Relaxation is important for your metal health & well-being. Massage can help reduce the tension, lower high blood pressure & reduce the cortisol (stress hormone) levels in your body. So why not treat yourself to a regular massage which can be beneficial to help eliminate the negative effects of everyday stress or tension in your body & mind.
For many people, the lack of human touch or contact can create feelings of loneliness, so receiving a massage from a compassionate, qualified therapist has the potential to help you physically & emotionally.
Pain management:
If you are using massage for pain management or other medical issues, you may receive massage more frequently throughout your recovery. If you have a chronic health condition generally clients would have a massage every 4 to 6 weeks, this also depends on how your body feels. You may want them more frequently. For pain management, people typically find that they require more frequent sessions in the beginning. As your muscles relax & healing begins, sessions decrease in frequency. I’ll also show you some stretches, that you can do at home, to continue your therapy between sessions.
Athletic performance & recovery:
While training for an event like a marathon, you may want to schedule massages a bit more often than usual. Massage can help get you in proper form & help you recover faster after the event or competition. The frequency of sports massage sessions is entirely dependent on your training & event schedule. However, even when you are not training, regular massage can help you to maintain your health, range of motion (ROM) & muscle flexibility.
How often should I get a massage?
The answer depends on your pain & physical needs, your stress & emotional needs, & of course, your budget. Receiving a massage regularly will have the most benefit. A massage once a week, or every two weeks would be ideal, but I understand this is not realistic for everyone, but perhaps every 4 to 6 weeks. For many people, regular massage may not be in their budget.
Remember, just as going on one short run on the treadmill doesn’t prepare you for a marathon, & one salad doesn’t lead you to all your health & nutritional goals, one massage session cannot undo years of neglect.
